What We Leave Behind: Recipes, Memories & Making | Led by Nour Hage

Textile workshops led by artist Nour Hage for her site-specific, participatory installation in the Yard as part of What The Food 2026. A series of participatory textile workshops exploring food as a form of memory and inheritance. Participants are invited to share a recipe, ingredient, cooking gesture or memory connected to someone who taught them how to cook. Through stitching, weaving, knotting and painting, these personal stories are translated into small textile fragments. The fragments are then incorporated into the suspended installation. The workshops become spaces for conversation and exchange, with tea and coffee creating an informal communal setting around the act of making. The accumulated fragments will be taken by the artist and they will be assembled into the final artwork. The workshops are not separate from the installation but they are the process through which the installation is made. Bring us something you know by heart: a recipe, a cooking gesture, a memory, something someone taught you. Location: Warehouse 50, Project Space, Alserkal Avenue. This workshop is open to individuals of 18 years and older. Workshop Contributions: By signing up to participate, you will be agreeing to the following terms: I understand that this workshop forms part of Nour Hage’s ‘What We Leave Behind’ installation for the What The Food 2026 event (“Installation”). I agree that any work or materials I contribute for incorporation into the Installation may be selected, adapted, combined with other contributions and incorporated into the finished Installation. I retain any copyright in my original contribution and grant Alserkal Avenue LLC and Nour Hage a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free unconditional licence to incorporate, adapt, display and reproduce it as part of the Installation, and to photograph, film, record and publish image or footages of it for exhibition, documentation, archival and promotional purposes of any kind and at any time. No payment is due for these uses, and individual credit is not guaranteed. I understand that physical contributions incorporated into the Installation will not be returned and that Alserkal Avenue LLC may retain, reuse, transfer, recycle or dispose of the physical Installation and its materials at its sole discretion and as it sees fit. I confirm that my contribution is my own original work or that I have the permissions necessary to contribute it on these terms.
