Building Allyship Gathering: Caring for Country with Courtney Hunter-Hebberman

Friends of Reconciliation - Adelaide Hills (FoRAH) is committed to creating opportunities to learn about our shared history, and promoting the aims of the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This September, we're pleased to present the rescheduled Caring for Country workshop with Peramangk and Ngarrindjeri Custodian, Courtney Hunter-Hebberman. Join Courtney as she talks about the traditional practice of Cultural Burning, also known as Cool Burning. This Traditional Aboriginal land management technique has been utilised for over 60,000 years to mitigate fire hazards, promote the growth of culturally significant species, and safeguard native wildlife. Cultural Burning is distinct from standard hazard reduction burning as it generates significantly less heat and is conducted more frequently in alignment with the seasonal calendar. This method not only preserves the environment but also fosters a deeper connection to the land and its heritage. This event is made possible thanks to Mount Barker District Council Community Grant Program funding.
