Where has this year gone? It's October already, and here at Dog-Eared HQ we’re finishing our 2026 program with a bang. Your generosity at the door has once again paid dividends with your support allowing us to jet our featured writer over from Sydney. We are thrilled to welcome the phenomenal Fiona Wright, award-winning essayist (Small Acts of Disappearance, The World was Whole) poet (Knuckled, Domestic Interior) and novelist (Kill Your Boomers). Fiona will be in conversation with the similarly impressive essayist and poet Gemma Parker, making this a session not to be missed! They will be joined by one of Dog-Eared's favourite interviewers Katerina Bryant (Hysteria: A Memoir of Illness, Strength and Women’s Stories Throughout History) who we are very excited to see step into the spotlight with her new work. And to top off this unbelievable line-up we have local superstar Steve Brock (Out of Season, Live at Mr Jake’s, Double Glaze) who has recently launched his third book of poetry. October sees Dog-Eared Readings back to our regular haunt and schedule - so please join us on Thursday October 22 at The Monocle at The Howling Owl (Vaughn Place, Adelaide) 6.30 for a 7pm start. Fiona Wright is a writer, editor and critic from Sydney. Her first book of essays Small Acts of Disappearance won the 2016 Kibble Award and the Queensland Literary Award for non-fiction, and her poetry collections are Knuckled and Domestic Interior. She was the 2024 Judy Harris Writer-in-Residence at the Charles Perkins Centre. Kill Your Boomers is her debut novel. Gemma Parker is an award-winning poet with essays, stories and poems published locally and internationally. Her hybrid creative-critical memoir, The Mother is Restless and She Doesn’t Know Why, was published this year with Scribner in Australia and the UK, and is forthcoming the US. This memoir was awarded a PhD at the University of Adelaide and a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Excellence. Gemma teaches Creative Writing at Adelaide University where she holds an Adjunct Fellow position. Katerina Bryant is a writer based on Kaurna Yerta. Her first book, Hysteria: A Memoir of Illness, Strength and Women’s Stories Throughout History (NewSouth), was published in 2020. Steve Brock has published three book-length collections of poetry: Out of Season: New Poems (Wakefield Press, 2026); Live at Mr Jake’s (Wakefield Press, 2020); and Double Glaze (Five Islands Press, 2013). He is also the author of the chapbooks Jardin du Luxembourg (Garron Publishing, 2016) and The Night is a Dying Dog (Friendly St Poets / Wakefield Press, 2007). Steve is the co-translator of the anthologies Desarraigo: 18 Poetas Transfronterizos (Nautilus Ediciones, 2021) and Poetry of the Earth: Mapuche Trilingual Anthology (Interactive Press, 2014). He has been a guest author at Adelaide Writers’ Week and a judge for the South Australian Literary Awards. Steve is a member of the JM Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice
