FLSA First Year Moot Grand Final

Welcome to the Grand Final of the First-Year Moot Competition! Come and support the first year finalists as they compete in a realistic court setting. All guests and competitors must go through airport style security with bodies and belongings scanned. Please be mindful of what you bring into the building so that nothing is confiscated. NO PHOTOS OR VIDEOS ARE PERMITTED WITHIN THE COURT BUILDINGS Mooting is a simulated appellate court competition designed for all law students, focusing on areas such as tort, contract, criminal, and public law. These competitions allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical, courtroom-like scenario. In mooting, teams of two students take on roles akin to appellate lawyers, engaging in legal argumentation and debate. Each team receives a hypothetical legal case. The task involves preparing written submissions and presenting oral arguments to a panel of judges, typically legal practitioners, academics, or actual judges. This exercise mimics the appellate process, focusing on interpreting and applying the law to a given set of facts. Each team comprises a designated Senior and Junior Counsel, with varying roles and responsibilities. The competition progresses through several rounds, each with specific timeframes for releasing and submitting questions and written submissions. Oral presentations have different time limits in each round. A timekeeper provides time warnings during the presentations.
