Science in the Pub: The Science of Life – Genes, Light and Miniaturised X-ray Sources

Join us to learn about and discuss some amazing new technologies and approaches to predict and protect life. Our expert panel will share their insights on molecular on/off switches, stem cells, and investigating health non-invasively: using light to predict which embryos may develop successfully, and how new, miniaturised x-ray sources are enabling portable healthcare and other solutions. Through short talks and audience Q&A, you’ll learn about world-class research happening locally, right here in Adelaide. Everyone is welcome! This month's panellists are: Dr Adrienne Sullivan – Adelaide University (Development and Epigenetics Lab): Epigenetics (molecular on/off switches), stem cells, and the new frontier of biomedical science Dr Darren Chow – Adelaide University (Reproductive Success Group): Reading the Force - can light reveal which embryos have the best chance of becoming a baby? Dr Thomas McSkimming – Micro-X (innovative technology: cold-cathode X-ray sources): Technology and applications of miniaturised X-ray sources Please join us on Friday 25th September at the Adelaide Irish Club (13-15 Carrington St, Adelaide). The event kicks off at 6:00 pm and will finish by approximately 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. All drinks are to be purchased at the bar. Each panel consists of three experts who deliver 10-15 minute presentations on their area and then open up to questions from the audience via a moderator. Panellists are selected primarily on their ability to effectively communicate science in an engaging and non-technical manner. SciPubAdelaide is held in a pub so that scientists, aspiring scientists, and non-scientists can learn, discuss and think critically about hot topics in science.
