Learn to grow, cook and preserve seasonal produce. Take home plants, recipes and practical skills for a sustainable pantry. Discover how to get more from your homegrown and seasonal produce by learning practical skills that take food from garden to table. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how to grow productive food crops suited to Adelaide’s climate, prepare delicious seasonal meals, and preserve surplus harvests using a range of simple, effective techniques. Participants will take home propagated plants, growing guides, and seasonal recipes to help them make the most of their harvests throughout the year. What you'll learn • The principles of sustainable food systems and reducing food waste • How to grow productive food crops at home • Planning meals around seasonal abundance • Basic food preservation methods, including drying, freezing, pickling, fermenting, and bottling • How to safely bottle and preserve food using water-bath canning methods • Creative ways to use preserved foods in everyday cooking • How to develop a year-round food strategy from garden to pantry What to expect • A combination of gardening, cooking, and food preservation demonstrations • Seasonal recipes and growing resources to take home • Your own propagated plants to continue growing at home By the end of the workshop, you'll have the confidence and skills to grow, cook, and preserve food more effectively, helping you enjoy local, seasonal produce all year round. About your host Kym Ormond is a trained chef and permaculture educator passionate about sharing practical, sustainable living skills.
