A connected and innovative midwifery and nursing workforce leads and delivers excellent care. Join us for this free, event celebrating nursing and midwifery leadership, research, innovation, and education across the Women's and Children's Health Network. Through inspiring presentations, interactive workshops, and networking, you will have the opportunity to: • Be inspired to explore innovation, leadership, and research within your own area of practice. • Learn from nurse and midwife-led initiatives that are improving outcomes for consumers and strengthening our workforce. • Connect and collaborate with colleagues from across WCHN and partner organisations. • Discover career pathways and the support available for future nurse and midwife leaders, researchers, educators, and innovators. • Explore emerging health priorities, including consumer partnerships, digital health, safety and quality, and workforce development. Who should attend? This showcase is open to all health disciplines and students, including nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, medical staff, educators, researchers, managers and leaders from all local health networks. Anyone interested in research, innovation, leadership and improving healthcare outcomes is warmly welcome to attend. Hear from two of WCHN’s nurse/midwife leaders as they reflect on their own career journeys so far and support you to identify the skills and knowledge you may need to become the next nurse/midwife leader. Facilitators: • Katrina Tisdall, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Workforce and Professional Practice • Alice Steeb, Clinical Practice Director Strategy and Reform Child and Family Health Service Workshop 2 (in person): Evaluation for excellent care New and existing clinical services require meaningful evaluation to enhance care quality. Using Practice Development principles and an evaluation framework, facilitators will support small group work to design an evaluation strategy for a service in your area. Facilitators: • Kasey Medlow, Advanced Nurse Consultant • Julie Alderson, Midwife Consultant Clinical Practice Development Unit Workshop 3 (in-person): Quality and safety 101 Every few years WCHN is accredited against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Collating evidence to drive improvement and demonstrate safe and effective care are important activities, and you can help. Completing high-quality audits and leading quality and safety in your unit can provide a pathway to reclassification and leadership. Learn about the basic research process at WCHN, including how to design a research study, access funding and methodological support, and pathways to University Research Higher Degrees. This engaging and interactive workshop is for anyone who is interested in leading their own research with support, at any level of experience. Hear from experienced clinical trials research nurses and midwives as they describe the skills, knowledge and interest you need to conduct high-quality work within research teams. Facilitators: • Vaccine Trials Unit Research Nurse/Midwives • SAHMRI Research Nurse/Midwives Workshop 6 (in person): Principles of co-design for nurse/midwife leaders We all want to co-design, but how do you really do it? Sometimes it is hard to start and get patient partners and the workforce (people with lived and learned experience) on the same page. This fast paced, practical session provides an open, collaborative space to reflect on why we co design, what makes safe co-design, and how to strengthen effective co-design practices across your workplace. Facilitator: • Barbara Mussared, Consumer Community Engagement Workshop 7 (in person): Embedding education and learning in clinical settings How does education link to strategy and our capacity to deliver excellent clinical care? How should we inform our approach to education of our workforce to promote rich learner centred opportunities for staff? Join Nurse/Midwife Educator experts to be introduced to some of the key concepts that underpin contemporary clinical education practice. Use examples from your clinical contexts to apply the learnings to real life scenarios.
