Ride the Chronovore considers time as an active force: consuming, transforming and leaving its evidence behind. At PARKER Contemporary. Open Wednesday - Saturday until October 4 EXHIBITION OPENING NIGHT FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18 6pm - 8pm Revisiting locations at different times of year, Geoffrey Burns approaches making as both a method and a measure of time. Works emerge through repeated encounters with place, where observation accumulates and memory takes form through surface and seasonal change. Ride the Chronovoreconsiders time as an active force: consuming, transforming and leaving its evidence behind. Through repetition, Burns traces how surfaces shift, forms appear and recede, and environments register cycles that often unfold beyond human attention. Each return gathers new information while revealing what has altered, disappeared or endured. The fleeting span of a human life meets the slower tempo of the natural world, inviting an attentive and materially grounded way of looking at the quiet force of time. Since 2022, Burns has presented his work in group exhibitions across Brisbane, continuing to develop a practice grounded in sustained observation, material process and abstraction. ARTIST TALK SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 20 3pm - 4pm followed by celebratory drinks with the artist in Fish Lane until 5pm Join PARKER Contemporary for an informal conversation with Geoffrey Burns, presented alongside his exhibitionRide the Chronovore. Photo credit: Geoffrey Burns by Robyn Wood ARTIST WORKSHOP Morning Musings Retreat with Geoffrey Burns Sunday 4 October, 10am–12pm $20 per person, including all materials and refreshments Step into the quieter side of Fish Lane on a Sunday morning and join artist Geoffrey Burns for a relaxed morning of slow looking, drawing and creative exploration. Moving through the precinct’s subtropical planting, laneways, architecture and street art, Geoffrey will share some of the ways he observes and responds to the environment within his own practice. Using simple drawing materials, participants will be guided through a series of exercises focused on looking closely, noticing texture, rhythm, detail and the small shifts that can easily pass us by. From there, everyone will be encouraged to take their own approach and spend time exploring and drawing within the precinct at their own pace. Held in conjunction with Geoffrey’s exhibition at PARKER Contemporary, the morning is less about producing a finished work and more about slowing down, paying attention and experiencing a familiar environment in a different way. No previous drawing or art experience is needed. All drawing materials and refreshments are included in the ticket price.
