He developed strong communication skills in his broadcasting years with 2UE and 2GB. He later served as a senior advisor in the New South Wales Government, focusing on mining, resources, and environmental policy. As a lawyer, he has worked on resource projects, particularly in planning and approvals. Appointed in December 2024, Stuart leads Coal Australia, an industry group that has attracted over 140,000 members. He is a vocal advocate for the coal industry, emphasising its economic significance and the need for a balanced energy policy.
