About this event
Climate EMPATHY Cafe - Active Listening Circle Brisbane *** This is a Climate Cafe SPECIAL EVENT. *** Where we will be exploring Active Empathic Listening Conversations around the Climate Emergency. This Circle will support you to explore your personal feelings, to feel deeply heard, to practice active listening in small intimate groups, which will help you feel more empowered to move through challenging conversations related to the Climate Emergency and polycrises in your own life. *** Release Climate Angst. Cultivate Active Hope *** A Climate Cafe is a deep listening sharing circle. Following on from the concept of the Empathy Cafe and Death Cafe. These are empathic listening spaces for the expression of feelings on a collective topic. Its a "cafe" to encourage casual conversations over tea about meaningful topics. >>>> See this VIDEO ABOUT CLIMATE CAFES <<<< At our Climate Café there is no guest speaker, no advice given, no call for action. Instead, you’ll find a supportive, facilitated conversational space for people to gather and share thoughts and feelings in response to the climate and polycrises of our time. Here you can voice concerns that may not be welcomed or echoed elsewhere in your daily life. You’re invited to share with interested others how you’re really feeling at this challenging time. This is a space to share your feelings about the climate emergency, ecological degradation, disaster recovery, political and social unrest, it's all connected. There may be laughter, there may be tears. There may be fear, there may be anger. Whatever you’re feeling is okay and valued. And it’s fine just to listen. Sharing, listening and being quiet together are all part of our Café. Your presence matters most, and you’ll be warmly welcomed. Outcomes people often receive: Permission to feel, find solidarity, be accepted as you are, to find some relief, create access to new possibilities. When feelings are released and felt, deeper wisdom can be contacted, active hope is cultivated for your work and life aspirations. "Times are urgent, we must slow down" ~ Bayo Akomolafe: Emergence Network~ "Climate [and Earth] emotions conversations ARE a political act" ~Margaret Klein Salamon: Climate Awakening~ "This is a dark time, filled with suffering and uncertainty. Like living cells in a larger body, it is natural that we feel the trauma of our world. So don’t be afraid of the anguish you feel, or the anger or fear, because these responses arise from the depth of your caring and the truth of your interconnectedness with all beings... Out of this darkness a new world can arise, from our dreams." ~Joanna Macy: The Work that Reconnects~ THE NEXT CLIMATE CAFE will be held in person on SUNDAY 5th July 2026, 9:45am-12pm in Windsor, address provided upon registration. We want everybody to be able to access the support they need, so tickets to our Climate Cafes are kept to a minimum. If you are unable to afford the Registration fee, please email us at [email protected] and we will send you a code for a free ticket, however there are limited free tickets available, so if you miss out this time you will be placed on our waiting list for future events. Further Info Climate Cafes were created by Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) who are a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2010 in Melbourne, Australia, to foster emotional engagement with climate change. PSC was founded in response to the lack of individual and community commitment to address the climate emergency. Our purpose is to support people in facing the reality of the climate emergency. They aim to build people’s capacity to respond constructively to climate change by promoting and strengthening mental health and wellbeing. They engage with those working on climate change, the caring professions, and the broader community. If you’re looking for further support or resources, you’ll find some here. If you’re based in Australia and needing further one-on-one help, you can reach out to someone in our Climate Aware Practitioner directory. Psychology for a Safe Climate is a majority volunteer organisation – please consider donating generously if you can. It’s through donations from people like you that we are able to continue this work.
