MONO 62: Tim Hecker

For over two decades, Canadian composer Tim Hecker has defined, and re-defined, the terrain of ambient music into the 21st century. Working with a seemingly counterintuitive logic, one of intensity, saturation, and harmony, he has terraformed the once milder sound-fields and in their place has fostered new sonic cathedrals that push at the very edges of form and expectation. Restlessness is a hallmark of Hecker’s work. His live performances that are hauntingly morphic and foggy, as he reshapes his sonic pieces into truly physical and material experiences. Hecker's work stands as one of the central pillars of contemporary electronics. Guest to be announced. Presented in conjunction with Soft Centre. MONO is the IMA's experimental sound program curated by Room40. Since 2006, MONO has brought sonic experimentation and boundary-pushing performance to Brisbane/Meanjin.
