Suicide Bereavement Support Group

The Brisbane North Suicide Bereavement Group offers a safe, welcoming, and non-clinical space for people who are bereaved by suicide. Grounded in peer support and lived experience, the group provides an opportunity to connect with others who understand the unique and complex nature of suicide grief, without pressure to “move on” or achieve specific outcomes. Who is the group for? • Ages 18 years and over. • Anyone who has been impacted or bereaved by suicide. • Brisbane North - open to all areas of Brisbane. What will the group achieve? • Support healing and wellbeing - Reduce the emotional intensity of grief, support coping strategies, and promote overall wellbeing in a compassionate and safe environment. • Provide sharing and validation - Offer a space to share stories, emotions, experiences of loss and to feel heard, acknowledged, and understood by others with lived experience. • Foster social connection - Reduce isolation by creating opportunities for meaningful connection, peer support and a sense of belonging. • Link people to additional support - Provide information about local services and, where helpful, gentle referrals to counselling, mental health and community supports. Our Approach: This group is part of Picabeen Community Centre’s commitment to community wellbeing. We recognise that grief is not linear, and healing looks different for everyone. The group is facilitated using trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices and is inclusive of people from: • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities • Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds • LGBTIQA+ communities • People living with disabilities All participants are supported to feel safe, respected, and welcome.
