Overview This training strengthens our capacity to respond with confidence and care during mental health challenges in community. It builds practical skills to recognise early signs of distress, hold grounded and supportive conversations, and act in culturally safe ways. The approach is guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander understandings of social and emotional wellbeing and shaped through First Nations expertise. Participants learn how to offer initial support to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander adult experiencing a mental health problem or crisis until appropriate professional or cultural support is in place. Purpose of the Training The training empowers participants to: • Recognise early signs of mental health challenges in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults • Respond to distress and crisis situations through a culturally informed framework • Support someone experiencing issues like depression, anxiety, psychosis, or substance‑related challenges • Respond safely and confidently to crises including suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, traumatic events and other high‑risk situations Why It Matters This training strengthens the way we care for our young people, our families, and our wider community. It supports YOU to bring cultural safety, calm responses, and informed action into moments when our mob needs us the most. It deepens our shared responsibility to uplift wellbeing, reduce stigma, and create strong pathways for healing.
