Get amongst the Gang-gangs

Immerse yourself in gorgeous remnant grassy woodland surrounded by birds and wildlife, slow down and paint what you observe around you. An immersive journalling experience inspired by the charismatic Gang-gang Cockatoo. Become curious about the world of the Gang-gangs and their fellow feathered friends. Listen for distinctive songs and trills, watch birds frolic and learn more about the woodland habitats they depend on. Explore local birdlife through a science communication lens, uncovering the ecological relationships between Gang-gangs, native trees, nesting hollows and the wider woodland ecosystem. Learn about the Gang-gang nesting hollow protection trials in Stony Creek Nature Reserve and how the findings can guide conservation practices more broadly. Large A2 floor easels create a grounding space for observation and journalling. Use drawing, painting or writing to capture what you notice- hopefully some Gang-gangs but I can't make any promises! No birdwatching or painting experience is necessary. Come with curiosity, take a moment to sit quietly and discover the stories unfolding around you. Registration is per easel, and participants are welcome to share with their child/ren or register multiple easels. All equipment is provided, tea and biscuits too :) This experience takes place outdoors and at ground level, with participants sitting on the ground while using floor easels. As a result, it may not be suitable for people who have difficulty getting down to or up from the ground, or who require accessible seating. Where to go: Meet at the Reserve Entry on the intersection between Captains Flat Road and Clydesdale Road and we will make our way to the site as a group.
