Getting Started with AI (2 nights: 21 and 28 Oct)

You get set up on your own device, and learn how to ask for what you want. Then you put it to work on something real: a letter to someone who matters, and a confusing bill or form you would like explained in plain English. You will also learn to recognise an AI voice scam, and what you should never type into any of these tools. That part alone puts you ahead of most people, including most people half your age. You go home with one thing to try during the week. Night two: making it yours We start with whatever went wrong, because something will have. Then you learn how to tell when an answer is not right, and what to do about it. The rest of the evening is yours. You work on a real task of your own with help beside you, learn to use a photograph instead of typing everything out, and find out how to talk to it rather than type, which makes a real difference if your hands or eyes would prefer that. You leave with a habit that keeps it useful after the course finishes. Who this is for Members who have never used AI and do not work in an office. If you can send an email and use a browser, you have enough. Anyone who has been meaning to try this and has not got around to it will be in good company. Why only fifteen places Everyone works on their own device, and everyone gets individual help. Nobody sits watching a screen at the front. Fifteen is the most one person can properly look after, so that is the cap. What to bring • A laptop or iPad, charged • An email address you can open on the night • Nothing else. A printed workbook is provided both nights. What it costs $139 for both evenings, including your workbooks. One booking covers both nights. Doors open twenty minutes early on the first night so everyone can get set up without rushing. About your presenter Bridget Kirby advises organisations on AI strategy and adoption as a Senior AI, Data Analytics and Digital Transformation Consultant. She started Plain Speak AI Literacy after members in her Pilates classes kept asking her how to get started, and could not find anything pitched at people who do not work in technology. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Bring your laptop or iPad charged, and bring your charger. You will need the password for your email account on the first night, not just the address. If you use an iPad, you may also be asked for your Apple ID password. It is worth finding both before you come. Bring your reading glasses. On the first night you will be asked to bring something you would like explained in plain English. A bill, an insurance letter, a phone plan or a set of instructions all work well. Please choose something you are comfortable having on your screen in a room with other people. Leave medical letters and bank statements at home. You will also be asked to think of someone you would like to write to, and why. A birthday, a thank you, or just to reconnect.
