Full description from organizer

About the speaker: Andrew Noonan "Sustainability, mitigating environmental and social damage and climate change resilience are design problems we need to solve collaboratively in our industry”. Andrew Noonan is the Sustainable Design Leader (Architecture) at Hassell Studio and a Professional Associate (Industry Adjunct) of the UC Living Lab for the Built Environment. He is passionate about making positive change through the application of regenerative design principles. Andrew is an advocate for the important role that large scale civic projects play in shaping the cities and environments of the future, providing incredible potential for better than net zero outcomes, not just for the buildings themselves but also their surrounding communities. He has a strong desire to produce exemplary design outcomes that shift the expectations of what buildings can be and how they integrate with their context and climate. His systems thinking approach enables the whole project team to leverage their unique expertise to create synergistic outcomes. In over 20 years' experience, Andrew has developed a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of buildings and construction which enables him to test outcomes in a systemic way. Andrew is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects National and Queensland Chapter Climate Action and Sustainability Committee. Through his career he has been fortunate to have worked on several leading sustainable designs, including Australia’s first certified Living Building, the Sustainable Building Research Centre at the University of Wollongong, and has further developed his practical knowledge of sustainability through studies at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the transition to net-zero economies and the circular economy.
