Life Drawing Master Class Workshop With Artist Linda Robertson Discover the expressive possibilities of life drawing with award-winning artist and experienced educator Linda Robertson. With more than thirty years of practice in drawing and printmaking, Linda is known for her evocative figure drawings, exploring light, form and the energy held within stillness. Her distinctive graphite and oil pastel technique brings a luminous presence to the human figure. Drawing on her extensive teaching experience, Linda combines foundations in anatomy, proportion and tonal observation with an intuitive approach to mark-making, encouraging participants to deepen their understanding and develop freer, more expressive drawings. Date: Thursday 11 February 2027 Time: 10.30am – 2:30pm Cost: $420 per person (+ Eventbrite booking fee) Class Size: Limited to 4 - 7 participants Please note a minimum number of bookings are required for this workshop to proceed. In the unlikely circumstance that the minimum number isn't reached a week prior to the event the registered attendees will be refunded for the workshop fee. What You’ll Learn During the workshop, Linda will guide you through: • Simplify anatomy and proportion to create a convincing human figure. • Capture gesture, movement and energy through quick sketches. • Strengthen your observation and draw with greater accuracy. • Use charcoal and erasure to explore light, shadow and three-dimensional form. • Develop confident, expressive marks and new approaches to drawing. • Find inspiration in drawings by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Degas and contemporary Australian artist Godwin Bradbeer. Workshop Outline • Welcome and demonstration: An introduction to working respectfully with a life model, followed by a charcoal demonstration from Linda. • Warm-up sketches: Two and five minute poses to loosen up and explore gesture and the overall shape of the figure. • Short poses: Five and ten minute drawings focusing on movement, expressive line and simplifying the figure. • Lunch break: Tailored to the group, 30 - 40 mins • Sustained drawings: Ten to twenty minute poses to develop proportion, observation and tonal depth, with individual guidance. Coloured pastel techniques may also be introduced, time permitting. • Group reflection: A shared look at the drawings, with discussion and ideas for continuing your practice. Regular model breaks will allow time for rest, demonstrations, discussion and individual feedback. The pace will be adapted to the group within the 3–4 hour session. What To Bring • Your drawing materials, guided by a list provided before the workshop. The emphasis will be on using supplies you already own. • Your own easel, if you have one. Please let the Gallery know when booking if you need one provided. • Any preferred drawing medium you would like to explore alongside charcoal. • Water bottle • Lunch if you wish (numerous cafes & restaurants are beside the Gallery to select from). Working Comfortably Working from easels is preferable, but if people prefer to sit that is okay. • Please bring a small folding table and chair if you prefer to sit. Supplied Paper (bulky news). Some additional drawing materials may be available by arrangement.
