Nyaal Banyul: Designing a New Landmark for Geelong

From its earliest conception through to its opening on Geelong's waterfront, Nyaal Banyul represents a powerful collaboration between Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, architects, project partners and public institutions. The venue's name, meaning "open your eyes to the hills", reflects a deep connection to Country and a commitment to embedding Wadawurrung culture, language and stories within the built environment. Moderated by Open House Melbourne, this panel discussion will bring together representatives from Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, Woods Bagot, Plenary and the Victorian Convention and Event Trust to share the story behind the project. Together they will explore how cultural leadership, architectural design, community aspirations and project delivery have shaped a new destination for business, events and community life in Geelong.
