Tilly Vickers Willis & Sashca Mueller at the Door Gallery Cafe Geelong

Melbourne musician Tilly Vickers Willis & her band pull you into the darkroom to experience her beautiful and haunting debut record, Silver Halide Film. Guided by the conventions of photographic processes through sound and analog projection, the performance explores each song as a newly developed photograph, each with its own distinct, mysterious world, inky and wet to the touch. Tilly Vickers Willis crafts music that is utterly haunting in both tone and restraint, threading the shadowy textures of Portishead and Lamb through her own experimental lens. With a subtle noir undercurrent running throughout—cool, dimly lit, and quietly unnerving—the skeletal trip-hop drums and piano lines drift rather than settle. The album toggles between two states—downtempo, dissociative detachment, and the almost mystical, but certainly magical, feeling of connection; not only with others but with one’s own body. -- Australian singer-songwritter Sascha Muller pairs honest and thoughtful lyrics with soulful guitar. Experimental chords mark her boundless curiosity and evoke a sense of warm, wintery blues. Happy and sad, dark and hopeful.
