Full description from organizer

In 2024 father and son duo Phil and Ned Wise completed a mammoth journey on their pushbikes, from their back door in Neika Tasmania, all the way to Darwin. During the 83 day, 5200km journey and since, they have raised nearly $65000 for three charities - Tasmanian Land Conservancy, The Thin Green Line Foundation and Ride for A Woman in Uganda. They have since been working on a documentary about the ride, and also to tell the stories of the three charities and they amazing work they do. In July 2027 Phil and Ned will travel to Uganda to film and tell three stories : • to capture the story of the Park Rangers protecting endangered Mountain Gorillas, • the retired Rangers who risked their lives to protect and then habituated the gorillas to humans- allowing tourists to visit them, • Ride for a Woman - a charity established to support the local community who benefit from the protection of gorillas and the resulting tourism. This event is the result of being awarded a FolkTas grant and will be a chance to hear the two riders tell their story, followed by a beautiful 30 minute acoustic performance of live music by Tasmanian artist Daniel J Townsend, with footage of the ride playing in the background. It will be the launch of a go fund me page https://gofund.me/7261fcfb6 and all funds raised from the ticket sales will go towards the documentary production as well. Daniel J Townsend has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s most engaging and inspiring voices. The creator of Midland HIghway The Musical, Daniel is an award-winning educator, songwriter and poet, the first songwriter in the world to release an album as a podcast, and has twice been nominated for AFMA’s Solo Folk Artist of the Year. He has played all over Australia, sharing the stage with artists such as Archie Roach, Lior and Katie Noonan. “A head full of stories, a soul old enough to have lived them, and a heart young enough to believe in their power to move us.” (Music SA) "Fabulously talented, literate and nuanced." - Stuart Coupe, music journalist "Sustained, jaw-dropping brilliance." - Pete Hay, poet and academic "Exquisite.
