We are delighted to be welcoming Professor Robin Franklin as the Allan & Maria Myers Lecuturer for 2026. Robin is a world-renowned expert in brain regeneration, with particular interest in myelin regeneration in multiple sclerosis. He chararcterised the age-related failure of myelin repair and his recent work has identified mechanisms to reverse the effect of ageing on the process. Robin is Principal Investigator at the Altos Labs, Cambridge Institute of Science. He was previously Professor of Stem Cell Medicine at the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute at the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society. His many honours include the 2017 Barancik Prize for Innovation in MS Research and the 2021 King Faisal Prize for Medicine. This lecture is entitled “Myelin regeneration in the CNS – molecules, mechanisms and medicines”. As the annual keynote scientific lecture of the Florey Institute, this will be a talk aimed at neuroscientists. Robin’s lecture will serve as the focal point of the Melbourne Brain Symposium, our annual showcase of neuroscience research undertaken by Florey investigators and their key collaborators.
