The First piano trio by a very young Dmitri Shostakovich has almost no presence on the concert platform, yet one can see a master on a rise. The Second Piano sonata shares its fate in Australia, may be due to a lack of 'wow' effect, although it is much more known and loved in Europe. Written at the same time as the sonata, the Second piano trio is by far the most famous work of the three. Together these three contrasting works make an intense and profound program by a great master. This recital is presented as part of the Hanson Dyer Hall Concert Series.
