Colour Theory for Watercolour with Emilie

Watercolour is a wonderful medium to start learning about the basics of colour theory. Get your watercolour set and join this class to learn all about composing a colour palette and mixing your watercolours! We’ll work on a couple of illustrations exploring the full spectrum of colour and learn to control the tonal value of your colours for shading and better contrast. Whether you are a complete beginner or already play around a bit with watercolour, you’ll expand your skills and understanding of colour in this fun and engaging class. What will we cover? Emilie will cover the very basics of colour theory and you’ll get to learn through a hand-on approach all about primary, secondary colours, adjacent and complementary colours as well as creating a beautiful mixing grid of colours. Emilie (she/her) is an artist and educator based between Melbourne and Marseille (Fr), working across media with a focus on community-based practice and education. She graduated from her PhD in Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2020 and has been an art resident at Testing Grounds (2020), Making Space (2021) and the Comic Art Workshop (2021). Emilie has exhibited her works at FortyFive Downstairs gallery, the Abbotsford convent, No Vacancy Gallery, Arcade and George Patton Gallery. In 2021, Emilie opened Couleur in Collingwood, a printmaking studio focusing on DIY, hand-prints, and experimental printmaking. Since 2023, Couleur Studio has relocated in South of France. Emilie is also a comic book artist and her illustration has been published by the Lifted Brow and she self-published her first graphic novel in 2018 with Tree Paper Comics in Melbourne. In 2023 she is running Glow Comics Trails festival with Laneway Learning, celebrating Melbourne's booming comics scene. Idle Time Studios Idle Time Studios is a shared studio space for creatives in Brunswick East and a workshop space for art classes ! We are not wheelchair accessible as of now, and there is a flight of stairs to get to the workshop room. Idle Time is located :4-6 Lincoln St, Brunswick East VIC 3057 It is a short walk from tram stop Mitchell St/Holmes Street (stop 128), on the 1 or 6 tram line. There is plenty of street parking available on the street of the studio (Lincoln St), as well as along Allard park on Donald St. When you get to Idle Time Studio, go through the roller door and all the way down the courtyard.
