ABC audiences have rarely been passive listeners and viewers – and a new book reveals the extent of their interaction in the days before social media. Our ABC: the Australian Broadcasting Commission and its audiences is the outcome of a research project into 5 decades of letters, switchboard logs and advisory committees that show how audiences responded to – and shaped – the ABC from its inception in 1932. Bring your questions for the audience q & a. Kylie Andrews is an historian whose research centres on broadcasting and production cultures. She was the Research Fellow on the ‘The ABC, its Archives and its Audiences’ Australian Research Council Linkage Project. Dr Andrews is the author of Trailblazing Women of Australian Public Broadcasting, 1945–1975 and has more than a dozen years of prior experience in media production.
