Nocturnal Insects Lightsheeting event at Bogong Reserve

Join Dr Luis Mata ecologist and entomologist to discover the often-secretive world of nocturnal insects. This guided citizen science event will focus on documenting insect species active at night using a technique known as lightsheeting - a LepiLED entomological (insect) light set up against a white canvas sheet to attract insects in a gentle, non-invasive way. We encourage all those attending to photograph and record the insects you find using Great Southern Bioblitz 2026 - City of Monash · iNaturalist Every observation you make will help build a clearer picture of the rich nocturnal insect life in the Reserve. Meet at the carpark next to the scout hall at Bogong Reserve. This event is supported by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority. As we plan the neighbourhoods around Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East stations, we’re supporting sustainable and attractive places to live, work and play. ‘Buzzing Burbs’ is a program to create more friendly places for native pollinators including birds, bees, bats, butterflies, and other wildlife.
