This is a two-Sunday intensive in classical charcoal portraiture, for anyone who wants to move past tutorials and build real, corrected skill under direct guidance. Sunday 22nd Nov: The Blueprint A series of shorter drawings focused entirely on getting the fundamentals right: understanding the tools we use and all the different types of mark making, shapes and proportion, construction, and tonal accuracy. This is where the habits that make or break a portrait get built and corrected, in real time. You'll leave with take-home exercises to reinforce what you've learned before Sunday two. Sunday 29th Nov: Putting it to the test One full day, one subject. You'll apply everything from Sunday one to a longer, more resolved charcoal portrait, the kind of sustained study that actually develops likeness and depth. Finish a portrait you can be proud of and leave with the tools to do it again. Who this is for • Complete beginners: you've never drawn a portrait before, and want a clear, guided path rather than trial and error • You've been drawing but want your fundamentals actually corrected, not just repeated • Your portraits look "close" but something's off, and you can't quite see what • You want sustained, focused practice rather than another short tutorial • You learn faster with direct, in-person correction than from solo practice What's included Both Sunday sessions, all materials, and direct instruction from Rayan, a classically trained realist painter working in the atelier tradition. Nothing, all materials are included in your ticket. What if I can't attend both Sundays? The sessions build directly on each other, Sunday one's blueprint feeds directly into Sunday two's sustained portrait, so both days are required. Is this refundable? Yes, a separate paint/alla prima intensive is planned as a follow-on for those who want to take this blueprint into colour.
