Shaping the future of our city: a post-election gathering for a regenerative Melbourne

Victorians will soon vote for the next State government. But regardless of who forms government, what does it mean for our city? This gathering on 4 December isn’t an election party or a post-mortem. We won’t be picking over who won each seat. Instead, we’re bringing people together to ask a bigger question: how do the people of Greater Melbourne take a more active role in shaping the future of our city? Too often, elections leave us feeling like spectators: frustrated, disengaged, waiting for someone else to set our future. But we know there's a better way of doing democracy, one built on hope, possibility and active participation, rather than anger and fatigue. This event is a culmination of the work being done by Regen Melbourne and our many partners to strengthen Melbourne’s civic muscle. Together we are building towards the bold vision of a Greater Melbourne Citizens' Assembly, as a way for everyday Melburnians to have a voice and deliberate on the big decisions facing our city. On the evening, you can expect to: - Reflect with others on where Melbourne finds itself in the wake of the State election, without the partisan heat - Hear what we’ve learnt this year about building democratic participation across Greater Melbourne - Connect with people across community, government, business and research who are putting their hands up to strengthen the civic muscle of our city towards a safe, just and regenerative future Who should come? Anyone who cares about Melbourne’s future. You don’t need to be a policy expert or an activist, and you don’t need to have been to one of our events before. In fact, we especially want to hear from people who are new to these conversations. Bring a friend, a neighbour or a colleague. This is a non-partisan event. All perspectives are welcome; what we ask is a willingness to listen and imagine together.
