Underground Philosophy: Serpent What is the significance of 'serpent' for the psyche? Can the notion of pharmakon, an Ancient Greek word meaning either / both poison and remedy, shed light on the many ways the symbol of the snake shows up in myth? Can a deeper understanding of the serpent support a maturation of awareness about the nature of transformation: of renewal, as well as destruction? On Thursday September 17th, Underground Philosophy returns.. Underground Philosophy is where spectators become participants. Experience live philosophy where audience members have the opportunity to ask questions, contribute to the field of meaning, and participate in conversations that venture through the ideas shaping our time. How this works... At Underground Philosophy, we sit before a small stage in the vault beneath Caz Reitop's. Members of the audience, guests, and members of Voicecraft Network will rotate places in dialogue on stage, facilitated by the host on the evening. When you book your ticket, you will be asked to select whether you're open to joining an open-minded, open hearted conversation. The dialogue on stage is filmed, sometimes shared on the YT channel, but mostly kept private for those in the room. RUNTIME • 5.30 - Doors (Gather upstairs in the cocktail lounge) • 6.00 - Start (take your seats at 5.50pm downstairs in the Vault) • 8.00 - Event End • 8.00 - Onwards: Optional speakeasy upstairs in the cocktail lounge. (There's a separate standup comedy event downstairs at 8.30.) Guiding this collective inquiry is Tim Adalin, supported by members of The Voicecraft Network. He will be joined by regular contributors to Voicecraft and Underground Philosophy Jurnee Manu, Cam Duffy, Taryn Ossowski, and the many time returning guest and collaborator, the chemical ecologist, general philosophical thinker and expert on snakes and toxinology, Dr Timothy Jackson. About Underground Philosophy Through altered states of conversation, Underground Philosophy connects Melbourne’s thinkers, artists, and seekers. Here we resist the capture of algorithms and dissociating ideology. When we come to Underground Philosophy, we come to connect and experience thinking you can feel—philosophy with soul. In so doing, we contribute to a field of attention that seeks to support a deeper integrity to civic discourse.
