Family and Domestic Violence First Aid Course 12/10

FDV First Aid is practical recognise-and-respond training that builds the knowledge, skills and confidence to safely support someone experiencing Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Too often, people want to help, but fear saying the wrong thing, making the situation worse, or not knowing where to turn. FDV First Aid bridges the gap between concern and action by equipping participants with clear skills to respond in ways that prioritise safety, dignity and choice. Using the Zonta Houses FDV First Aid SAFE approach responding to family and domestic violence, participants will learn how to recognise possible indicators of FDV, respond in a supportive and trauma-informed way, and connect people with appropriate support while maintaining their own boundaries, safety and wellbeing. FDV First Aid: Learning outcomes Using the SAFE Approach participants will learn to: S-See and understand common signs, indicators, dynamics and impacts of FDV. A-Acknowledge and affirm someone experiencing FDV, learn ways of responding safely, supportively, with empathy and without judgement F- Follow their lead, learn skills and build confidence in having supportive conversations, how to respect a person's choices and autonomy E-Encourage safe support by connecting people appropriate and safe supports, while understanding their role, respectful boundaries, and self-care considerations when responding Following the training, participants will be better equipped to recognise when someone may be experiencing FDV and respond with clarity, confidence, and compassion.
