Governance, Markets and Justice in the Climate Transition

Governance, Markets and Justice in the Climate Transition brings together researchers and practitioners from across disciplines for a one-day workshop examining one of the central challenges of the climate transition: how responsibility for action is assigned, verified and shared — and who bears the cost when it is not. Held shortly before COP31, the workshop will open with new findings from the Curtin Centre for Applied Ethics' national survey of 2,048 working Australians, exploring what employees expect of the companies they work for and how far they trust corporate climate commitments. Presentations throughout the day will move between the institutions through which climate obligations are established and enforced; the markets and technologies through which the transition is financed and delivered; and the uneven distribution of its costs across regions, workplaces and communities. Bringing these perspectives together, the workshop aims to foster a cross-disciplinary conversation about what it takes to move from stated commitments to verified action and equitable outcomes. Presentations will be approximately 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion, creating space for conversation and exchange throughout the day. Hosted by the Curtin Centre for Applied Ethics, Curtin University.
