About this event

An in-person grief first aid training helps participants build skills to recognize, understand, and empathetically respond to adults experiencing grief.

Full description from organizer

Build the skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond with empathy to adults experiencing grief and loss. The Grief First Aid (GFA) course equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand, and respond with empathy to adults experiencing grief and loss, ensuring those affected feel heard, respected, and supported. With 80% of grieving employees saying they don’t receive meaningful support and 30% feeling their grief isn’t acknowledged, workplaces often misinterpret grief related behaviours as performance issues—creating unnecessary risk and harm. By becoming a Grief First Aider, you play a vital role in breaking the silence around grief. You help create safe and supportive pathways for colleagues, friends, and community members, while fostering environments that normalise conversations about grief, reduce stigma, and provide meaningful support. • Accreditation is awarded by GFA upon completing the training and short assessment. • Accredited Grief First Aider status is valid for three years, ensuring knowledge remains current. Build your grief literacy by joining me today! Who Should Attend This course is suitable for individuals seeking to enhance their understanding of grief and loss and develop practical skills to support others in the workplace and beyond. Learning Outcomes • Understand what grief is, and how it impacts people in different ways • Recognise the wide range of grief experiences, including both death and other type of losses • Understand their role as a Grief First Aider, including when and how to refer colleagues for additional support • Explore models of grief to better appreciate the diversity of grief journeys. • Identify and explain how culture, subcultures, and diversity (including Indigenous, and other groups) influence individual grief experiences and expressions. • Gain practical skills using the GRIEF Action plan to respond with compassion and confidence. • Learn how to care for yourself while supporting others. • Participants to complete a short assessment at the end to become an accredited Grief First Aider • Foster peer-to-peer support networks and contribute to a compassionate team culture. • Apply a preventative, workplace-first approach that complements existing wellbeing services (e.g., EAP). What You Will Receive From The Course This course includes the Grief First Aid Book and post course accreditation as a Grief First Aider.
