Hospitality and barista skills

Two day hospitality training workshop for ages 14-17 Kickstart your hospitality journey with our barista and job skills course, designed for young people looking to build confidence and gain practical skills for their first casual job. Across two days, participants will take part in hands-on workshops covering the essentials of working in a café or hospitality environment. You'll learn the foundations of barista work with real espresso machine practice, including espresso preparation, milk texturing and coffee machine handling. The course also focuses on job readiness, with sessions on resume writing, interview skills and workplace expectations to help you feel confident applying for your first job. Participants will also develop front-of-house service skills, including taking and serving orders, plate carrying, table clearing, customer communication and hospitality etiquette through real-life practice activities. Participants who attend both days will receive a nationally recognised certificate of completion. This course is 50% subsidised by Willoughby City Council as part of our commitment to supporting young people in our LGA. Course requirements • You must be 14 to 17 years old. • You must bring your USI (Unique Student Identifier) on the day. See FAQ for more info. • Participants must wear enclosed shoes. • You will need to bring or purchase your own lunch during the break. Event times Wednesday 30 September – 9 am to 2 pm and Thursday 1 October – 9 am to 2 pm. Note: Participants must attend both days to receive their certificate. Photography release This event and the participants will likely be photographed and filmed. Participants acknowledge that photographs and films may be used on Willoughby City Council’s website, publications, public displays, social media and in promotional video footage.
