NSW: Find & Make Story Day - Half Day Workshop

Your story matters. Here's how to tell it. You're doing important work. But if people can't feel it, they can't support it. This half-day workshop teaches you how to turn your mission into stories that move people - using just your smartphone. No expensive equipment. No production team. No AI prompt that can do this for you 🙃. Because authentic storytelling isn't something you can outsource. It comes from you- your voice, your community, your unique point of view. We'll show you how to find it, shape it, and share it. Who is this for? This workshop is for you if you: • Work in communications, advocacy, or programs at a nonprofit or social enterprise • Are a social entrepreneur with a story you know needs to be told • Are tired of your impact getting lost in reports nobody reads • Are curious about storytelling • Want practical skills you can use immediately No filmmaking experience needed. Beginners and experienced communicators both leave with something valuable. What You'll Learn: • How to use our Story Canvas tool to brainstorm story ideas and develop an effective storytelling strategy • Narrative frameworks • How to use your phone or tablet to record good quality interviews, dynamic footage and audio • Tools for planning your story • Tools for editing short, sharp and shareable videos on your smartphone or tablet • An understanding of how to approach impact storytelling with ethics at the forefront By the end of our Intro workshop you will have: • A story idea developed using our Story Canvas tool — a clear, structured concept ready to film • Hands-on experience filming with your smartphone, including interviews, dynamic footage, and audio • An introduction to mobile editing tools so you can cut and share short videos yourself • A practical understanding of ethical impact storytelling — how to tell stories with, not about, your community • The confidence to go home and start In an age of AI, authentic stories matter more than ever AI is here, and it has some incredible tools that can make this process easier: it can help you write captions. It can generate scripts. It can even edit footage. But it can't sit with the person whose life your work has changed. It can't feel the moment when a story lands. It can't build the trust that makes someone open up on camera. The organisations cutting through right now are the ones who've learned to tell their own stories - with honesty and with heart. That's what this workshop is about.
