Save with a Multipack and see all three events: $99 in-person or $39 livestream. ****** Session #1 - THE ETHICS OF INTERVENTION Date & Time: Tuesday 20 October 6:30 pm -7:30 pm AEDT Is it ever justified for one nation to intervene in the affairs of another; with troops, with money, with force, or whatever? Who decides such questions? Who bears the cost - of both inaction and intervention? In The Ethics of Intervention, former soldier, military strategist and adviser Dr David Kilcullen discusses with academic Dr Gwilym David Blunt when stepping in is a duty, when it's a trespass, and how we tell the difference. ****** Session #2 - THE ETHICS OF IMMORTALITY Date & Time: Wednesday 4 November 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm AEDT We've spent our whole history assuming that death is inevitable. What if it isn't? In The Ethics of Immortality, international bestselling novelist, Neal Shusterman, who has imagined a world that has ‘cured' death, sits down with philosopher Dr Tim Dean, who studies how our mortality helps shape who we are, to discuss what we'd lose if we won the fight against death. Who gets to live forever? What is a life with no ending for? And would you say yes if offered the chance to live forever? ****** Session #3 - THE ETHICS OF HAPPINESS Date & Time: Thursday 26 November 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm AEDT We all want to be happy. Most of us wish happiness not just for ourselves but also for the people we love – and even our pets! But what exactly is it that we all want? Is it to feel joy or tranquillity? To be deeply satisfied? Or to obtain certain objective goods? In The Ethics of Happiness, philosopher Dr Caroline West questions whether happiness is even a single, unified thing, and asks whether a happy life is necessarily a good life. If we cannot agree on what happiness actually means, what are we really aiming for when we say we want it?
