Terry O’Gorman presents on how police and prosecution disclosure failures impacting the Queensland criminal justice system The 2026 Annual Mayo Lecture presented by James Cook University will be delivered by Terry O’Gorman, retired Queensland criminal lawyer and Vice President of the Queensland Council for Civil Liberties. The Mayo Lecture is a distinguished annual event organised by the College of Business, Law, and Governance in collaboration with the James Cook University Law Students Society (JCULSS). This prestigious lecture series is held in honour of Mrs Marylyn Mayo, a foundational law staff member at JCU. This year’s Mayo Lecture is titled “Police and prosecution disclosure failures are causing miscarriages of justice in Queensland. What is the solution?” Drawing on decades of criminal law practice and civil liberties advocacy, Mr O’Gorman will examine how failures to disclose evidence undermine fair trials, and the reforms needed to protect the integrity of our justice system. The event will take place at the Bebegu Yumba Campus in Douglas, Townsville, and will be followed by a networking function that will allow participants to engage with one another.
