The next meeting of the Belgian C++ User Group is planned for Tuesday December 15th, 2026 at 18:00. I’m happy to announce that the next meeting of the Belgian C++ User Group is planned for Tuesday December 15th, 2026 at 18:00 at KU Leuven. You can park in the parking tower "Parking Kapeldreef" across the departement. Use parking code: 85252# (use the # both when entering and leaving the parking). Dekimo and KU Leuven Department of Computer Science are sponsoring this event by providing the location, drinks and catering. The agenda is as follows: • 18:00: Reception with food. • 18:30: Session 1: A gentle introduction to Reflection (Lieven de Cock) Static reflection in C++26 is a major feature; it is considered a game changer. We will look at some basic things we can do with it. We’ll only be scratching the surface of what is possible, but it should whet your appetite and get you dreaming. We will be creating a universal printer (which can also print enumerations) and parsing command-line arguments in a scalable way. Next, we will determine if there is padding in our types, and we might also generate some new types if time permits. These are all nice little things that are now possible thanks to reflection. I am also trying to fit in a section, where by using reflection it is shown that Hinnant’s table can be verified, and shown to be correct. • 19:30: Break • 19:45: Session 2: How I wrote the (almost) fastest C++ DBus library (Rhidian De Wit) As C++ developers performance is usually on our mind. We try to write programs that, at the very least, run efficiently in either the sense of memory usage or time spent. In this talk, we’ll be going over some (un)common methods to squeeze every last nanosecond of performance out of your code while not giving up on any modern C++ design patterns. After all, performance does not mean that we need to give up on readability in our code. • 20:45: Introduction to Dekimo and KU Leuven Department of Computer Science, followed by a drink. We will be giving away a copy of Software Architecture with C++: Designing robust C++ systems with modern architectural practices, Second Edition. We will also be giving away a copy of C++ Memory Management: Write leaner and safer C++ code using proven memory-management techniques. The event is free for everyone, but registration is required. There are 125 seats available for this event. Note: The deadline for registrations is December 13th, 2026!
