Benefit exhibition: Gelijke Grond

More than 90 students and around 15 people experiencing poverty reflect on the question: ‘What does it mean to feel at home somewhere?’ The result is an exhibition bringing together more than 100 artworks, inviting visitors to ask themselves the same question. Kauwenberg vzw, an organisation where people experiencing poverty have a voice and a youth welfare centre, provides this much-needed warm and welcoming space in the heart of the city. The participating students come from different year groups within the Fine Arts programme. Their works emerge from their own artistic practices and perspectives. Through the collaboration with Kauwenberg, a space is created for encounters with people who draw on their own experiences to reflect on poverty and the importance of safe spaces. The artworks are for sale at €50 each, an accessible and solidarity-driven price for emerging artists. All proceeds from the benefit exhibition, along with additional voluntary donations, will go to Kauwenberg. However, you don't need any prior knowledge of art, nor do you have to buy anything to be welcome. Above all, Gelijke Grond is an invitation to share space.
