IV32: Yeah You, Lauren Tosswill, Simon Van Honacker

IV32: Yeah You (Elvin Brandhi & Gustav Thomas), Lauren Tosswill, Simon Van Honacker In vitro #32 Yeah You (Elvin Brandhi & Gustav Thomas) Yeah You is the father/daughter duo of Elvin Brandhi and Gustav Thomas. Originally from Wales but citizens of the world, with ever-changing logistics between Vienna, Kampala, Berlin, Cairo, Newcastle. Improvised musical and geographical excursions are the base of their Kh-art’ Car-art. The project has an innate portability. It grew from a desire to make something during every spare moment, using compact recording gear to turn the usual banal everyday family drives into spontaneous recording sessions in the car. Indeed, warped into identity politics, this could be an anti-formulaic deconstruction of the nuclear family and of psychic uniform, which normative roles serve to sustain. Their spontaneous sonic outpouring spews unfiltered humanity into jagged pop requiems made from a variety of tools in endlessly shifting contexts. They have released on Alter, Slip Imprint and Opal Tapes among others. ‘… an absurd pairing of the Rilkean sublime [with] knackered EDM… Wildly inventive and genuinely weird… underground music at its best.’ – Stewart Smith, The Wire Lauren Tosswill Lauren Tosswill is a sound artist and performer from the coast of Maine. She uses language, voice, and objects as a means to complicate and undermine comprehension, construct absurdity, and engage in live, relational exchange with collaborators and audience. She has been creating original sound and performance works for over a decade. Her debut solo album, my home in the year, was released on enmossed (US) in 2018. She released 1, 2 on Hard Return (UK) in 2022, and her work also appears on the 2019 compilation Hotline, alongside artists like Raven Chacon.
