Those claims have been raised including in international forums where some have argued that the Spanish autonomous cities belong to them by even mentioning the word 'colonialism' as a claim argument. Two months after the migration crisis in late July, the European Union backs Spain on Ceuta and includes the autonomous city within the community club. But, are these claims legitimate? Can the Spanish cities in North Africa be considered as "colonies" according to the definition recognized by the United Nations? Who did these cities belong to before they became Spanish 500 years ago?
