English sacred music written during troubled times, including Byrd's Mass for Five Voices The ascent of the House of Tudor ended decades of civil war and launched England into the Renaissance with a flourishing of art and commerce. Henry VIII, denied an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon by the Pope, separated England from the Catholic Church. What followed was a period of confusion, iconoclasm, and death for many on both sides — Catholic and Protestant. Secretorum: Private Devotional Music from the House of Tudor invites you to contemplate what it means to believe at a time when openly practicing your faith could see you imprisoned, tortured, or killed. ------------- We're raising funds for a brand new commissioned work, can you help us out?
