Learn Your Camera: A Private Photography Lesson in Edmonton

Just bought a camera? Have one that's been sitting on the shelf because you're not quite sure what all those buttons and settings actually do? This relaxed, 90-minute private photography lesson is designed to help you get comfortable with your camera and start making photographs with more confidence. We'll head outside and learn by actually taking photographs. Rather than trying to memorize every menu or setting, we'll focus on the things that make the biggest difference when you're getting started - how exposure works, what aperture and shutter speed actually change, how to focus reliably, when to adjust your settings, and how to begin moving beyond Auto mode. Most importantly, we'll work with your camera. Bring whatever camera and lens you already own, and we'll figure it out together. This session is for you if: • You've recently bought your first camera. • You've owned a camera for a while but haven't really learned how to use it. • Auto mode feels safe, but you're ready to understand what happens beyond it. • You learn better by doing than by sitting through a technical class. • You'd simply like someone beside you who can answer your questions as they come up. This is a private session, so there's no pressure to keep up with a group and no such thing as a silly question. And if you'd feel more comfortable learning with someone you know, bring a friend, partner or family member at no additional cost. $75 | 90 minutes | Beginner friendly Bring your camera, your lens (or lenses), a fully charged battery and a memory card. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea too. The goal isn't to know everything your camera can do by the end of 90 minutes. It's to understand it well enough that the camera starts getting out of the way of the photographs you want to make. Don't see a time that works? Don't see a date or time that fits your schedule? We'll plan to photograph outdoors, but I'll keep an eye on the forecast leading up to your session. Light rain, clouds or chilly weather won't necessarily stop us — they can make for wonderful photographs. If conditions are unsafe or genuinely miserable, I'll contact you and we'll arrange another date. Dress for the weather, and we'll make the most of whatever Edmonton gives us.
