Tree Canada's National Tree Day Planting Event in Halifax

Tree Canada and Halifax Regional Municipality are excited to plant trees in honour of National Tree Day. Come celebrate with us! Tree Canada, with the support of the Halifax Regional Municipality, is excited to celebrate National Tree Day (NTD), presented by BMO. National Tree Day connects local action to national impact—when Canadians participate across the country, we grow a movement that reflects who we are and the future we want to build. Join us to plant trees and shrubs in Flinn Park and connect with nature. Tree Canada experts and experienced volunteers will be on hand to support you and answer your questions. We’ll provide gloves and shovels—all you need to bring is your enthusiasm! How you'll be making an impact This event will increase plant biodiversity in Flinn Park, expand tree canopy and shade, and support neighbourhood climate resilience. Volunteers will help transport trees and shrubs to the planting areas using wheelbarrows, then participate in planting, staking, and watering the new vegetation to support successful establishment. Free Food: Volunteers can grab a snack, courtesy of Vachon. What to wear and bring: Volunteers should wear and bring the following: • Water bottle • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots • Long pants • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing • Sunscreen • Bug spray • Hat • Hand sanitizer This rain or shine event will take place unless the forecast calls for thunderstorms or very heavy rainfall. We look forward to planting trees with you! Meeting Point: Volunteers will meet at the park entrance on MacDonald St. and Churchill Dr. Parking: Parking is available on nearby residential streets. Terrain: Easy to moderate. There are some gradual slopes, most of which are grass covered and paved trails. Amenities: The Halifax Shopping Centre is located nearby for facilities. Booking Information: This is a community event. Businesses and corporations must contact us to reserve tickets for their teams.
