He paints from the Woodland School lineage of Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig and Arthur Shilling, and extends its formal language into new media through Hyper Woodland, a framework positioning Anishinaabe futurism as a continuation of that tradition rather than a break from it. Influenced by Indigenous futurists like Cannupa Hanska Luger, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun and Skawennati, Hopkins’s immersive installations and digital artworks explore ancestral storytelling, technological innovation and cultural resurgence.
