Sgraffito is a traditional decorative technique that involves applying a layer of color to pottery and then scratching or carving through the surface to reveal the contrasting pottery underneath. Instead of simply painting your design onto the surface, you actually draw by removing areas of color. The technique can produce crisp lines, interesting textures, intricate illustrations, bold patterns, and beautifully detailed designs. And the best part? You don't need to be an artist to get great results. 🎨 Learn, Experiment & Create Your Artventures instructor will demonstrate the basic sgraffito process and introduce you to the tools and techniques you'll use to create your design. Your piece will remain at Artventures to be professionally glazed and kiln-fired, transforming your design into a beautiful finished piece of pottery. Because pottery requires time for glazing, firing, and cooling, finished pieces are not available to take home immediately after the workshop.
