It follows Fuki, an imaginative eleven-year-old coping with her father's terminal illness and her mother's exhausted grief. Left to her own devices, Fuki drifts into telepathy, hypnotism, and the occult, searching for a way to name a loss she can't yet understand. As summer unfolds, Fuki encounters a string of lonely, imperfect adults, each one nudging her closer to grief without ever forcing catharsis or easy resolution. Premiering in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Renoir was nominated for the Palme d'Or and praised for its visual elegance and Yui Suzuki's understated performance.
