The Thatch Academy Fundamentals Cutting Intensive is a five-day, hands-on education experience designed to strengthen the foundation behind your haircutting. Rather than teaching you a collection of haircuts to memorize, this program focuses on understanding the principles behind them — giving you the tools to make more intentional decisions behind the chair. Because when your foundation is solid, you trust yourself more. What We'll Cover Throughout the five days, we'll work through: • Fundamentals of haircutting • One Length Above Shoulders • Round Layer • Tri Layers • Bob with Graduation • Graduated Bob • Short Pivoting • Square Layer • Round Graduation Each shape builds on the last, allowing you to explore how foundational cutting principles can be used, combined and adapted behind the chair. THE WEEK DAY 01 — FUNDAMENTALS + ONE LENGTH We begin with the foundation. We'll establish the principles and language we'll use throughout the week before putting them into practice with a One Length Above Shoulders haircut. DAY 02 — LAYERING Round Layer + Tri Layers We'll explore layering through two different shapes, looking at how our choices change movement, weight and the finished result. DAY 03 — GRADUATION Bob with Graduation + Graduated Bob A deeper look at graduation and how we intentionally build and control weight within a shape. DAY 04 — SHORT PIVOTING Short Pivoting We'll take the principles we've been building and apply them to a shorter shape, developing confidence working with shorter lengths and changing direction. DAY 05 — CONNECTING THE FUNDAMENTALS Square Layer + Round Graduation Our final day brings the week together through two additional shapes, reinforcing the fundamentals and giving you another opportunity to understand how the same principles create completely different results. Who This Is For This intensive is for stylists who want to become more confident and intentional with their cutting. You might be newer to cutting, returning to the fundamentals after years behind the chair, or simply tired of knowing how to execute a haircut without fully understanding why you're making each decision. This isn't about starting over. It's about building a foundation you can actually build from. What Makes This Different We don't want you leaving Thatch Academy knowing seven new haircuts. We want you leaving with a better understanding of haircutting itself. The goal is to understand the principles well enough that when the person sitting in your chair doesn't look like the mannequin from your class, you still know what to do.
