Disentangal Art Exhibition

An exhibition exploring the intersection of feminism, design, and craft While “design” and “art” have always held elevated positions in our culture, craft has been relegated to a less formal position relegated to the work of cottage industry artisans who are largely women. This exhibition challenges this notion by showcasing how craft can challenge dominant narratives. “Invisible Thread” by Belqis Mazhari shows how the process of making can challenge exploitative consumer culture in fast fashion. Meanwhile, “Free All” celebrates community and resilience amongst different communities of women. The exhibition ends with attendees participating in the making of a community quilt which explores how their impressions of craft and feminism in today’s world. We hope that this exhibition helps people “disentangal” their thought processes concerned with traditional viewpoints of feminism.
