Full description from organizer

Create a surface pattern design using stamps, inspired by the cultural art of Adire (Yoruba, West Africa) This introductory level workshop will introduce you to the Yourba printing technique of Adire. Participants will explore storytelling inspired by the art of Adire Batik print making. Using easily accessible materials, participants will explore stamp and mark-making to create a surface pattern design inspired by history, symbols and icons made with stamps from craft foam. Each participant will create a collection of stamps, a colour palette and surface pattern for their project. This workshop is open to beginners or anyone looking to expand their creative skills with hands-on techniques. Please come in clothing you don’t mind getting paint on. All materials will be provided. Facilitated by Amsa Yaro, a London-based artist with a longstanding involvement with public art installations and exhibitions throughout the city including at TAP Centre for Creativity, UpwithArt at Museum London, and Forest City Gallery. Yaro is a former journalist turned mixed media artist who uses paper materials to create original works inspired by her Nigerian background, culture and life. Yaro has been involved in multiple public art projects including the BIA Argyle Ribbon project, a collaborative mural for the OEV Mural Art Project located at 632 Dundas Street as well as Dundas Marquee Block Banners and Planters. Yaro co-curated the “Here Life, Her Art” International Women’s day Exhibition at Innovation Works in 2026, 2021 Black Visual Arts Exhibition in the Somerville 630 Gallery, the Black History Month Arts Pop Up at Museum London in 2022 and her work was featured in the Mrs. Galaxy Canada Pageant in 2024.
