KAIROS BLANKET EXERCISE WORKSHOP (Ages 18 years & above)

ONE is proud to host a FREE workshop sessions for ages 18 & above, to continue the call to action to provide educational opportunities for Canadians to learn the truth about Canada’s history and relationships over the past 500 years with First Nations, Inuit, Métis peoples. What is the KAIROS Blanket Exercise? During the fir two hours, participants walk on blankets that represent land, take on the roles of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and hear a story that covers pre-contact history, treaty-making, colonization, and resistance. The exercise is designed to educate participants about a history that many Canadians were never taught and is followed by a facilitated discussion circle to reflect on the experience. The last hour of the workshop is a sharing circle where participants are asked to reflect on the experience and share their insights. Through this highly interactive, knowledge building workshop, you will: • gain a deeper understanding of the historical relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. • better understand impact of colonization, including policies like residential schools and the Sixties Scoop. • realize the historical and contemporary realities of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. • learn how to take informed action in the context of reconciliation.
