ASHRAE NB/PEI October 2026 - Simple and Robust HVAC Designs

ASHRAE NB/PEI October Presentation TOPIC: Simple and Robust HVAC Designs for Energy Efficiency, IAQ, and Occupant Comfort With an ever-growing range of HVAC technologies and system options available, how can engineers determine the best solution for each project? This presentation explores the importance of fully understanding an owner’s requirements and using those needs to guide system selection and design. The presentation will examine how simple, robust and energy-efficient HVAC solutions can provide excellent comfort and indoor air quality without relying on costly technologies or overly complex control strategies. It will also explore the advantages of Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) compared with traditional Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems, particularly in heating-dominant climates. Ultimately, the session challenges designers to look beyond complexity and consider how thoughtful, straightforward HVAC design can improve system performance, reliability and resiliency while delivering greater value to building owners. Recommended audience: Engineers, Contractors, Manufacturer Reps, Students, Building Owners About the Presenter: Joel Primeau Joel Primeau brings more than 35 years of experience in the HVAC industry and has been an ASHRAE instructor since 2011.
